What’s Your Plan After Graduation?

Tiesta Tea Intern

During the summer of 2013 I worked as a PR Specialist and Media Coordinator at Tiesta Tea. Tiesta Tea is a loose-leaf tea company based out of Chicago, Illinois. Their all-natural, loose-leaf teas are packed with high quality fruits and herbs from all around the world. Their goal is to take the confusion out of tea by organizing the teas into five functional lines that explain the effects they have on the drinker (Energizer, Slenderizer, Relaxer, Immunity and Eternity). They believe this simple approach, along with unique flavors will appeal to the masses and raise awareness for loose-leaf tea.

While at Tiesta Tea I worked on writing individual tea descriptions for almost 50 different teas, I created a year of monthly email campaigns and wrote copy for each of those. I wrote blog posts, helped plan events, write copy for handouts and brochures. I also reached out to numerous online bloggers and sent them samples to write reviews about our teas on their blogs. My last task as an intern was to write numerous news releases and reach out to journalists around the Chicago Land Area.

Here are a few of the news releases.

Honey Bee Weddings

During the Summer of 2013, I had the opportunity in interning for Melissa Daniel at Honey Bee Weddings. Honey Bee Weddings is a wedding planning company based in Chicago, offering a variety of services from full planning to day of coordination. As an intern I spent each day differently. Some tasks included: reviewing documents, making confirmations leading up to events, building timelines, contacting venders, writing blog posts, putting together invitations, and more. I spent my time going to client meetings and was invited to different events throughout the city representing Honey Bee Weddings.

I also focused my time at Honey Bee weddings on PR and Marketing. I created a media kit for the company’s blog and created a marketing plan for the company’s social media accounts. Over the course of my internship I successfully assisted in coordinating eight weddings consisting of Catholic, Indian, Jewish and Greek weddings. Since the closing of my internship, I have officially started to work for Misse at random as her assistant at weddings throughout the city.

Check out some of the work I did in the links below.

Book Project

In my Visual  Communications class at Loyola, my final project was to create a book using two given essays. Using images from the Internet and my own photography, I created the book using Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop, by putting together the design and typography skills learned throughout the class.

One project in my Visual Communications class was a typographic process book. We explored the possibilites of typography in our assignment with different requirements and restrictions. The final project was bounded and turned in. Have a look by clicking in the link below.

L4C Newsletter

Loyola 4 Chicago is a club on campus that involves students in community service through different programs. I am currently involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentoring for a 7th grader at Jordan Elementary in Chicago.

The public relations committee within L4C is in the process of creating a monthly newsletter that is emailed to all involved in the program. This newsletter will contain feature stories on the different groups within L4C and inform members of upcoming events. Currently there has only been one newsletter sent, but we are working to build a stronger foundation to regularize the newsletter.

Digital Artifact Project

I took a class at Loyola titled, Communication and New Media. This class was run through a class wiki where all the students in the class could access, edit and share ideas with each other in one place. The course focused on exploring the way technology affects personal, cultural, and mass communication through examining the historical, societal, and ethical implications of new and interactive forms of media. I built skills in creating meaningful blog posts, creating video blogs, writing ‘thick’ verses ‘thin’ tweets, and much more throughout the semester.

The final group project was to create some sort of new media digital artifact. My team of four other students came up with ‘Instafacetwitgramanol’, a pretend pharmaceutical drug that keeps one wired and connected to social media at all times. We created a website in order to mimic that of a real drug on the market, showing the benefits and side effects of this social media drug. We created a commercial to go along with our project as well. See the ‘Artist Statement’ tab on the website to learn more.
